Safety zones available in Jacksonville for UF-UGA game

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Fans in Jacksonville this weekend for the University of Florida football game against the University of Georgia will be looking for a win and a good time. However, if an emergency happens, students can rely on the city of Jacksonville to help.

Sideline Student Safety Zones will be set up throughout downtown Jacksonville that provide Gator and Bulldog fans with access to first aid, taxis, cellphone chargers and computers and city maps. Each location will have water, coffee and snacks available. This is the sixth year that locations have been staffed by volunteers. Emergency medical services will be provided by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. Students who seek help at a safety zone will not be subject to legal action concerning alcohol use.

Six areas will be designated to assist students at the following times:

Inside Jacksonville Landing
Friday, 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Saturday, noon to 3 a.m.

Outside Jacksonville Landing (corner of Laura Street and Independent Drive)
Friday, 6 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.
Saturday, noon to 3:30 a.m.

Florida-Georgia Welcome Center (across from EverBank Field next to Metropolitan Park)
Friday, 8 a.m. to midnight
Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Coastline Drive and Newnan Street
Friday, 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Saturday, noon to 3 a.m.

Touchdown Showdown (outside EverBank Field’s south end zone)
Saturday, 10 a.m. to end of game

Adams Street Experience (outside EverBank Field’s Gate 1)
Saturday, 10 a.m. to one hour post-game
