UF Symphony Orchestra to perform four concerts this fall

September 27, 2012

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Every semester, the University of Florida Symphony Orchestra introduces UF students and Gainesville residents to classical music through an array of performances. This fall, Gainesville residents have the opportunity to see four free performances by the orchestra.

Conductor Raymond Chobaz will lead nearly 70 students whose majors from architecture to zoology, he said. They will perform a collection of works by a variety of composers of varied national origins. Stella Sung, one featured composer, received her master’s in composition from the UF School of Music. She is the composer-in-residence for Dance Alive National Ballet. Previously, she was the composer-in-residence for the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra from 2008-2011. Sung was honored with an Oustanding Alumna award in 2005.

Chobaz believes that the compositions chosen for this fall are “tales that the audience could easily identify with” and hopes to create a musical buzz around Gainesville.
