'30 Rock' star Tracy Morgan to perform at Growl

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Gator Growl 2012 will feature “Saturday Night Live” alumnus and Emmy-nominated “30 Rock star” Tracy Morgan as the comedic talent for this year’s event at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Morgan rose to fame as a regular cast member of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” in 1996 and played characters such as Brian Fellow and Astronaut Jones until he left the show in 2003. He was also known on the show for his impressions of celebrities Mike Tyson, Mr. T and Star Jones.

Recently, Morgan has starred on the popular NBC sitcom 30 Rock as character Tracy Jordan. His character was named one of the 100 Greatest Characters of the Last 20 Years by Entertainment Weekly.

Morgan has also starred in several feature films including the 2005 remake of “The Longest Yard,” “Are We There Yet?” and “Cop Out.” He also provided voices for the animated featured films “G-Force” and “Rio.”

Morgan will join country superstar Josh Turner as the featured performers for this year’s event. In addition to these two superstars, this year’s event will also feature fireworks, the Para-Commandos skydiving team, as well as the Dazzlers, UF cheerleaders and the Gator football team’s senior members.

The theme of Gator Growl 2012 is “United We Growl” and the show will be honoring both the Florida Gators and the United States military on the eve of Veterans Day Weekend.
