Machen to give State of the University address

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida President Bernie Machen will present his 2012 State of the University address at the UF Faculty Senate meeting set for 3 p.m. Thursday at the Reitz Student Union Auditorium.

The speech will reveal the latest news and developments in regard to research, students, innovation and other key aspects of the university. Machen will also discuss the many challenges facing public higher education today and how UF’s origins and historical legacy provide a path for the future.

His remarks will kick off a yearlong, campuswide celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Morrill Act, the law that created the land-grant universities including UF.

The speech is open to everyone in the UF community.
