Larson's musical 'tick, tick….BOOM!' coming to UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — From the creator of the hit musical “Rent,” Jonathan Larson’s equally masterful and semi-autobiographical musical “tick,tick…BOOM!” is coming to the University of Florida.

Directed by Stephanie Lynge and starring Joel Oramas, Nathan Dilenno, Yael Reich , Brook Heffernan, and Laine Nelson. The show debuts July 31 and runs through Aug. 5 at the Constans Theatre, located near the Reitz Student Union Colonnade. Performances are 7:30 p.m. July 31-Aug. 4 with a 2 p.m. matinee Aug. 5 Tickets are $13-$17 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster (http://www.ticketmaster.com) or the University Box Office at 352-392-1653.

The play begins on the eve of Jon’s 30th birthday. His show “Superbia” is due to have its first performance, and Jon is beginning to doubt his career choices. Over the course of this touching yet comical look at the dilemmas of real life and the rewards and limitations that come with following your dreams, we meet his girlfriend, Susan, his best friend, Michael, and a myriad of quirky characters that inhabit Jon’s life.

Lynge brings her previous experience on Broadway in “Beauty and the Beast” and the National tour of “Mamma Mia” to this production. Oramas, a master’s of fine arts student, leads the cast of graduate and undergraduate singers and actors on his journey of personal discovery and choice.
