UF Board of Trustees elects chairman

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida Board of Trustees voted unanimously Thursday to elect David Brown as its chairman for a term ending June 30, 2013.

Brown, the former vice chairman, succeeds Carlos Alfonso. Marshall Criser III was unanimously elected the new vice chairman.

Brown graduated from UF in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration majoring in accounting. After serving in the Air Force, he received his law degree from UF in 1978.

Brown joined Broad and Cassel in 1980 and has served as managing partner of the Orlando office since 1988. He became chairman of the statewide law firm in 2000. The firm specializes in all aspects of commercial law serving the premier national and Florida business communities.

He served on the UF Board of Trustees from February 2004 to January 2008 and was reappointed in April 2010. He is an active member of the Florida Council of 100, serving on the board of directors and executive committee.

In 2000, Brown became a member of Caremark’s board of directors and chaired the governance committee. After completing a merger with CVS, Brown now serves on the board of directors for CVS/Caremark and is a member of its executive committee. Since 2006, he has served on Rayonier’s board of directors and is currently a member of the audit committee and the compensation and management development committee.
