May 2, 2012

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A special Mother’s Day performance by Straight No Chaser will be held at 2 p.m. May 13 at the Phillips Center for Performing Arts.

Lauded for its unforgettable live performances, the 10-member male a cappella group’s
most recent album “Six Pack: Vol. 2″ has the ensemble put its inimitable touch on a selection of modern pop classics, including Weezer’s “Buddy Holly,” Madonna’s “Like A Prayer” and “Get Ready,” written by Smokey Robinson and made famous by The Temptations.

Straight No Chaser recently performed at the 85th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and was featured on the “Generation YouTube” episode of ABC’s “20/20.”

Formed more than a dozen years ago while students at Indiana University, the group has regrouped to great acclaim, garnering more than 35 million YouTube views to date. Straight No Chaser’s 2008 debut “Holiday Spirits” hit No. 4 on Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums chart and reached the top of Amazon and iTunes’ sales charts.

In an era where digital processing and vocal pro-tooling has become the norm, Straight No Chaser relies on 10 unadulterated human voices coming together to make music that is moving people in a fundamental sense … with a sense of humor.
