Work plans for Newberry Road exit ramps revised

April 17, 2012

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The closure of the Interstate 75 southbound ramp onto Newberry Road that was scheduled for Tuesday night has been rescheduled to Wednesday night while the northbound exit ramp will be closed Tuesday night for paving, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

Each ramp will close at 9 p.m. each night and reopen by 5 a.m. the following day. Traffic will be redirected to use either Archer Road (Exit 384) or Northwest 39th Avenue (Exit 390).

The change in schedule is due to safety issues that were identified if the northbound exit ramp was allowed to remain open during paving of the exit ramp where it connects with I-75.

The repaving is part of the overall interchange improvements that include the addition of two lanes to the northbound exit ramp onto Newberry Road. The entire project is expected to be completed by early summer. The FDOT hired D.A.B. Constructors Inc. of Inglis to reconstruct the ramps for $2.2 million.
