Shands Rehab Hospital and Shands Vista to host 25th Anniversary Celebration

What: Shands Rehab Hospital and Shands Vista are hosting a 25th anniversary celebration featuring food, games, prizes, music and more. Albert and Alberta will be in attendance and the ShandsCair helicopter will be on display. The public is invited. Employees and former patients will be on hand to celebrate and show appreciation for the valuable resources the community has in Shands Rehab Hospital and Shands Vista.

When: Saturday, March 17

3 to 5 p.m. – Food, games and prizes
5 to 6 p.m. – Program and awards – Speakers include UF&Shands leadership; Marina Cecchini, Shands Rehab Hospital and Shands Vista administrator; James Atchison, M.D., Shands Rehab Hospital medical director; Richard Shriner M.D., Shands Vista medical director and founding medical directors of both hospitals.

Background:
Shands Rehab Hospital and Shands Vista were established in 1987. Shands Rehab Hospital is north central Florida’s only inpatient rehabilitation hospital. UF faculty and community physicians provide comprehensive medical rehabilitation care and treatment. Inpatient services include physical medicine, psychological rehabilitation and occupational, recreational, physical and speech therapies. Outpatient services include a Spine and Sports Intervention Center. Shands Rehab Hospital is designated by the Florida Department of Health as a Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program facility.

Shands Vista is a comprehensive behavioral health and addiction medicine hospital. UF faculty physicians provide inpatient and outpatient services through comprehensive adult, child and adolescent psychiatry programs. Services include treatment for addiction, eating disorders, memory disorders, anxiety, depression and a wide range of other mental health conditions.

The Florida Recovery Center offers addiction treatment through the partial hospitalization program and the intensive outpatient program.
