Interstate 75 repairs to continue Thursday night

March 1, 2012

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The repairs on Interstate 75 in Paynes Prairie in southern Alachua County were not finished Wednesday night so work will continue on the northbound lanes Thursday with two lanes closed beginning at 8 p.m.

The northbound middle and inside lanes will be resurfaced to repair damages from multiple crashes that occurred Jan. 29 on I-75 about five miles south of Gainesville.

Two of the three southbound lanes were resurfaced Wednesday night with all lanes reopening today at 3:40 a.m. Because fog hindering visibility started to settle into the area, a decision was made to finish the southbound lanes and return early this evening to complete the northbound lanes. About 150 feet of pavement will be repaved.

During the lane closures, traffic will be slowed to 60 mph while the three northbound lanes are narrowed to one. Motorists may opt to use US 441 which runs parallel to I-75 as an alternate route between Williston Road (State Road 121) (Exit 382) and County Road 234 (Micanopy) (Exit 374) during the lane closures in the event traffic backs up.
