Nominations sought for Fourth Annual Sustainable Solutions Awards

February 14, 2012

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida Office of Sustainability seeks nominations for the 4th Annual Sustainable Solutions Awards as part of Campus Earth Day 2012.

Nominations will be accepted until March 1. The awards ceremony will take place following UF President Bernie Machen’s annual State of Sustainability address on April 6 on the Reitz Student Union North Lawn.

The awards recognize individuals or teams who have made significant contributions toward advancing sustainability at UF. Qualifying projects will have met UF’s sustainability vision in the categories of waste reduction, water conservation, energy conservation, academics, engagement and social equity. Awards will also be presented to the most active Green Team and student organization.

New to this year’s program will be a “Campus Choice” category, allowing applicants to encourage peers, colleagues, friends and family to vote for their submission from March 13-23.

“The Sustainable Solutions Awards program is such a great opportunity for us to recognize the myriad efforts occurring every day across campus,” said Anna Prizzia, director of the Office of Sustainability. “Each and every person’s contributions to a more Sustainable UF are essential to the university accomplishing our sustainability goals, and the stories are so fun to tell.”

Nominations are judged based on their positive environmental, economic and social impact to UF, the extent to which they have engaged others, and their ability to be expanded or replicated among departments, units or groups on campus.

To nominate an individual or department, visit the Get Involved section of the Office of Sustainability website: www.sustainable.ufl.edu/awards.
