UF Public Utility Research Center celebrates 40th year

WHAT:
The University of Florida Public Utility Research Center, known as PURC, will commemorate its 40th anniversary during the PURC/World Bank International Training Program on Utility Regulation and Strategy.

WHO:
More than 30 international utility professionals will tour the new GRU South Energy Center to learn about electricity generation. Afterward, they’ll return to the UF Hilton and Conference center, the site of the training program. In total there are nearly 70 participants studying energy, water and telecommunications regulation and policy.

WHEN:
Wednesday, Jan. 18, GRU South Energy Center tour: 8 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. followed by educational sessions at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center, 1714 SW 34th St. Gainesville, beginning at 10 a.m.

WHY:
Since its founding in 1972, PURC has grown from a small group center to an internationally recognized research center offering expanded training and interdisciplinary development programs reaching hundreds of people each year who come from all around the world.

The PURC/World Bank International Training Program on Utility Regulation and Strategy is one such program. More than 2,500 people from 149 nations have traveled to Gainesville to learn from leading experts and international faculty. The program lasts two weeks, and the participants attend nearly 50 sessions that include case studies, practical exercises and panel discussions.
