UF physicists available to talk about 'God particle' findings

December 13, 2011

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Several University of Florida physicists and longtime leaders in the search for the Higgs boson, or “God particle,” will be available for comment today when researchers at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research near Geneva, announce their latest findings.

Two teams from CERN are expected to say that their findings narrow down the search, but experts do not expect to hear that either team has actually observed the elusive sub-atomic particle thought to explain why all matter in the universe has weight.

The following UF experts are available for analysis of today’s announcements:

Jacobo Konigsberg, UF physicist and longtime Higgs boson research leader at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, or Fermilab, is a member of the Compact Muon Solenoid, or CMS, research team based at CERN.
