Reynolds named vice president for business affairs at UF

December 21, 2011

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Curtis Reynolds, the University of Florida’s assistant vice president for physical plant, has been named the university’s vice president for business affairs.

Reynolds’ new position is effective Jan. 6.

“I think one of Curtis’ strongest attributes is the fact the he already had experience managing operations at large, complex campuses before he came to UF,” UF President Bernie Machen said. “That experience will serve him especially well in his new role here.”

Win Phillips, senior vice president and chief operating officer, agreed.

“Curtis has spent his time at UF overseeing the UF physical facilities and operations; a very large enterprise,” Phillips said. “That’s excellent preparation.”

Reynolds joined UF in July 2010 as assistant vice president for physical plant. From 2006 to 2010, he was vice provost for facilities management at Miami Dade College, where he was responsible for business affairs on eight campuses located throughout Miami-Dade County.

From 1993 to 2006, Reynolds worked at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he rose from maintenance engineer to executive director for administration. In the latter position, he was responsible for oversights in finance, business processes, information technology and energy management.

“It is a privilege and honor to have been selected as vice president for business affairs at UF,” Reynolds said. “I hope to positively impact UF’s business affairs through advancing quality, excelling at service, ensuring safety and maintaining cost for our students, faculty and staff. I am excited to be a part of an institution that has incredibly dedicated individuals within the various divisions of business affairs.”

Reynolds holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in electrical engineering, both from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a master of business administration degree from the University of Alabama.

He is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers, the U.S. Green Building Council, the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Association of Higher Education Officers.

Reynolds succeeds Ed Poppell, who retired in November after working at UF for more than 41 years.
