GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida students, alumni and visitors can now explore campus in a whole new way thanks to the UF partnership with location-based social medium and mobile application Foursquare.

Those who follow the UF Foursquare account will be able to view tips for various major locations on campus when they check in to the venues, including legends, traditions, historical facts and general information. Followers also have access to helpful lists created by the university, such as “Places to Print On Campus” and “UF Traditions.”

“College is all about exploring the world,” Anna Frenkel, Foursquare marketing manager, said. “By joining Foursquare, the University of Florida is helping its students discover their communities and get the most out of campus life. It’s great to see universities embracing new technology to enhance the college experience.”

The Foursquare mobile application rewards users for checking in to venues through points, badges and “mayorships” as well as exclusive discounts and specials for certain locations. The partnership utilizes the Foursquare for university’s platform, which aims to encourage campus exploration as well as connect students, faculty, staff, alumni and campus visitors.

“We hope students will utilize Foursquare to explore campus and learn more about the locations,” Bruce Floyd, UF social media specialist, said. “We’d like for students to add tips, share experiences at venues on campus and participate in the social media conversation.”
