Pledges for each touchdown benefit libraries

September 1, 2011

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida Libraries, along with the support of the UF Alumni Association and head football coach Will Muschamp, encourage Gator football fans to help maintain and grow the services of the libraries by pledging for every touchdown scored in the 12 games of the 2011 Florida football season.

Pledges can range from 25 cents to $100 or more. Those who pledge can even designate which library they would like their donation to support or choose to fund the libraries’ greatest needs. Based upon the 2010 Florida Football results, a total of 33 touchdowns were scored in the 2010 regular season of 12 games. At $1 per touchdown, a 2010 pledge would have only been $33.

Funds received from the Academic Sport Challenge will allow the UF Libraries to purchase library resources to meet learning and instructional needs of all students, including student athletes and scholarship recipients, and extend the library hours prior and during final exams. UF students have requested that both Library West and the Marston Science Library remain open 24 hours a day five days a week or 24/7 during fall and spring semesters. With sufficient new revenue, 24/5 or 24/7 may become a reality.
