Open house to provide information on SW 13th Street work

August 4, 2011

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — An informational open house will be held Aug. 8 so the public can learn about a construction project that starts this month along SW 13th Street between SW 5th and SW 16th avenues.

The Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency will retrofit the roadway and pedestrian areas with multimodal transportation and safety enhancements such as lighting, handicapped ramps, sidewalk widening and bus stops.

The open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Blue Gill restaurant, 1310 SW 13th St. Parking is available at the Shands parking garage at the same location. For more information, visit www.gainesvillecra.com.

“The changes will address traveling convenience along an important corridor linking the University of Florida to the greater city” said Matt Dubé, CRA senior project manager.

Oelrich Construction Management Inc. will oversee construction, which the firm expects will use 68 construction-related positions.

The project will begin on the west side near the Archer Road intersection and then proceed south to SW 16th Avenue.

Traffic flow will be maintained at all times along SW 13th Street with brief lane closures. There will be temporary sidewalk closures. The work should be completed by early December.
