Gator Growl to feature The Soup's host Joel McHale

August 29, 2011

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Joel McHale, star of “The Soup” on the E! network and the sitcom “Community” on NBC, will be the featured comic for this year’s Gator Growl.

McHale will be doing stand-up comedy, prior to the headline act, The Goo Goo Dolls. Gator Growl has always had comedic acts in past years including Aziz Ansari and Kevin Hart in 2010 and Dana Carvey in 2009.

“A comedian is a great addition to mix up the entertainment during the show,” said Aaron Heger, the 2011 Gator Growl producer. “Comedians have always worked out well in past shows, so we tried our hardest to find a popular, current comedian for this year’s show.”

McHale is best known for hosting “The Soup” and for his role as Jeff Winger on “Community.” His role as a voice actor includes Elliot in “Open Season 2,” filling in for Ashton Kutcher. He also appeared in “Spider-Man 2″ in a cameo appearance as bank manager Mr. Jacks, and in “CSI: Miami” as Greg Welsh.

Tickets are $15 for students and $25 for the general public. The price of all tickets increases by $5 during Homecoming week. For more information, visit www.gatorgrowl.org.

Gator Growl 2011 will be held Nov. 4 in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. This year’s event will mark Gator Growl’s 88th show since its origination in 1923.
