University of Florida summer commencement scheduled for Aug. 6

WHAT: Summer 2011 commencement ceremonies

WHO: A total of 1,260 University of Florida students are expected to participate in three commencement ceremonies, based on regalia orders as of July 28. A total of 2,677 students have applied to graduate this semester.

WHEN AND WHERE: 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, in the O’Connell Center

All advanced degree candidates will participate in the morning ceremony. Bachelor’s degree candidates from all colleges will participate in the afternoon ceremony. A separate ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. in the HPNP Auditorium for College of Pharmacy graduates. Sixty-one students have applied to graduate from the college with their doctor of pharmacy degrees, and 35 are expected to participate in the ceremony.

BACKGROUND: Kenneth D. Wald, distinguished professor of political science, will receive the Teacher/Scholar of the Year award for 2010-2011 at the 10 a.m. ceremony. At the 2 p.m. ceremony, students Constantine Metropulos and Simone Sher will receive outstanding four-year scholar awards. Ismail Muhammad ibn Ali will receive an outstanding student leader award.

WEBCAST: Live commencement webcasts will be available for the two ceremonies being held at the O’Connell Center. Viewing information will be posted on the commencement website.
