Learn all about Fulbright programs on Thursday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida International Center will be hosting its second annual Fulbright Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m April 21 in the Reitz Student Union, Rooms 361-363.

Fulbright Day is a day devoted to discussing ways to continue and increase awareness about Fulbright programs across campus, learning about the programs’ application process, and listening to the experiences of past Fulbright scholars and students.

The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship program in international educational exchange.

There will be two guest speakers, Andy Riess and Walter Jackson. Riess is the Institute of International Education’s interim director. He is in charge of outreach and communication, as well as the department of scholar and professional programs. Jackson is the Institute’s program manager. He is in charge of the U.S. student programs.

The day will be split into three parts. From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., there will be an information session for undergraduate advisers and graduate coordinators. From 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., there will be a faculty workshop. And a student workshop will be held from 3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

To end the day and to honor UF’s past Fulbright scholars and student participants, President Bernie Machen will be hosting a by-invitation-only reception at the UF President’s House following the day’s activities.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is not necessary, but RSVPs are encouraged by contacting Kimberly Ambayec at kambayec@ufl.edu.

Fulbright grants and fellowships are available in all fields of study and in the following world regions: Sub Saharan- Africa, East Asia & Pacific Region, Europe and Eurasia, Near East/North Africa, the Western Hemisphere and South and Central Asia.
