Museum fundraiser goes for cowboy theme

March 9, 2011

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Grab your boots and join honorary chairwoman Chris Machen for “Passport to Cowboy Florida,” the Florida Museum of Natural History’s annual fundraiser from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 19.

Admission is $150 per person and all proceeds support Florida Museum exhibits, public programs and research. Tickets may be purchased online, www.flmnh.ufl.edu/passport/ or by calling 352-273-2086.

Patrons can see the museum transformed into an authentic ranching town from a simpler time, when cattle roamed freely and agriculture dominated Florida’s economy.

The hoedown includes a gourmet country dinner catered by Blue Water Bay, live country music by Crosstyz and dancing. Guests may participate in a silent auction featuring art, hotel stays, jewelry, museum summer camp packages and other items as well as view roping demonstrations.

Dress is casual and guests are encouraged to wear their best wide-brimmed hats, boots, blue jeans and chaps to complement the “Cowboy Florida” theme.

“Passport to Cowboy Florida” is a production of the Florida Museum Associates Board. For more information, including sponsorship opportunities, contact Leslie Ladendorf, assistant director for development and membership, 352-273-2047.
