GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Parents and providers from Gainesville and the surrounding areas are invited to learn a lesson or two about taking care of their teeny toddlers at this weekend’s Guiding and Teaching Our Remarkable Children (G.A.T.O.R.) conference.

University of Florida’s Baby Gator Child Development and Research Center and the Harn Museum of Art will present the conference April 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum.

Parents and providers of children from infancy to age 5 are encouraged to register. Participants will sit in on lectures about child growth and development, early childhood education and parenting strategies.

UF doctors and professors, Alachua County Library representatives and University Police Department officers will speak on topics such as keeping children active at home, sign language, reading children’s books and bicycle safety. Representatives from UF’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities will also lecture at the conference.

This is the second G.A.T.O.R. conference hosted by the two centers. Last year there were 30 participants, and this year, organizers hope to draw about 100. Registration costs $20 per person and can be completed at the door, online at www.babygator.ufl.edu or by calling 352-273-8000.
