UF's Department of Recreational Sports hosts the Strong Gator competition

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida’s Department of Recreational Sports will host the Strong Gator competition at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26.

It is a test of pure strength, speed, explosive strength, conditioning and muscular endurance through five events. The competition will take place at 10 a.m. at Maguire Field and is open to all valid Gator 1 cardholders.

Men and women are encouraged to participate in this test to find out who are the strongest Gators. Spectators are welcome.

Special guest Bill Kazmaier, a three-time World’s Strongest Man Champion, will attend the Strong Gator competition. He will crush frying pans and bend 10-by-3/8 inch bolts. Autographed images of Kazmaier will be raffled off along with giveaways. He won the Strongest Man Competition in 1980, 1981 and 1982, and is a highly respected competitor in strength competitions in the United States.

Competitors will test their skills in events such as the Log Clean & Press, Atlas Stone, Farmer’s Walk, Yoke Walk and the Prowler Push/Tire Flip/Keg Carry.

Weight classes for women are: less than 150 pounds; 150-165 pounds; 166-180 pounds; more than 180 pounds. Classes for men are: more than 175 pounds; 175-210 pounds; 211-230 pounds; 231-250 pounds; more than 250 pounds. Participants can register online at recsports.ufl.edu. All participants will have a final weigh-in on the morning of the event.
