Northern Arizona professor to lecture on ancient Egypt

February 10, 2011

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Graffiti, cults and pilgrimage activity of ancient Egypt will be the topic of discussion when Northern Arizona University’s Professor Emeritus Eugene Cruz-Uribe visits the University of Florida.

In his lecture titled “From the Valley of the Kings to Philae: Ancient and Modern Pilgrimages,” Cruz-Uribe will discuss what ancient Egyptian graffiti reveals about the pilgrimages of ancient Egyptian cults.

He will lecture at 8 p.m. Feb. 15 in the Computer Science Engineering building Room 121.

Cruz-Uribe specializes in ancient Egyptian studies, particularly ancient Egyptian languages and ancient graffiti. He has conducted fieldwork in many areas of Egypt.

The free lecture is open to the public and co-sponsored by a grant from the Archaeological Institute of America and UF’s School of Art and Art History.
