November 8, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — International Education Week, hosted by the University of Florida International Center, will offer ample activities for involvement on campus Nov. 14-19.

The theme, “Making Global Connections,” focuses on understanding global cultures. It will highlight all the opportunities available to UF students for international education and study abroad programs.

“The annual observance of International Education Week reminds us all of the importance of strengthening the UF community to be globally engaged,” said David Sammons, dean of the UF International Center. “A world-class institution has no other choice. We are certain you will be educated, energized and entertained by events during the week.”

The week kicks off at 10 a.m. Sunday with the Volunteers for International Student Affairs World Cup Soccer Tournament on Flavet Field. Each day during the week, free samples of international Starbucks coffee will be available in the Hub, where students can learn more about international opportunities.

The week will include a game night, bowling tournament and potluck. Awards will be given Nov. 18 to international students who excel in their schoolwork and community involvement. A faculty award for international educator of the year will be given Nov. 16.

Extending International Collaboration and Networking NGO/PVO Day takes place Nov. 19 in the Reitz Student Union. The event will feature expert panels on current global topics, networking opportunities for students, faculty and invited organizations and a keynote address.
