October 1, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida’s 89.1, WUFT-FM, is commemorating its 29th broadcast anniversary with a limited edition poster featuring an acrylic painting by acclaimed artist Margaret Ross Tolbert. The poster will also honor the 15th broadcast anniversary of WJUF-FM

Tolbert, who also was featured as WUFT-FM’s 11th anniversary poster artist, is dedicated to depicting the natural beauty of Florida’s freshwater springs on canvas. The featured work, “Silent Springs,” is a full color 24-by-30-inch horizontal poster available for a pledge of $100 during the Fall Public Radio Membership Campaign Oct. 20-30.

Tolbert, a Gainesville resident, has also collaborated on a new book, “Aquiferous,” focusing on the 12 springs that have been an inspiration for her artwork. It features paintings, photographs, prose, poetry, performance documentation and drawings of the beauty and importance of these springs and the effect that pollution and overuse are having on this irreplaceable resource.

Tolbert received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Florida. Over the last 20 years, Tolbert has executed series of paintings, drawings and lithographs from studios in the U.S., France and Turkey. Her work is featured in many private and public collections, including the Contemporary Art Museum of the University of South Florida, Daytona Museum of Art and Science, Southern Bell Tower Collection and the Jacksonville Art Museum.
