Workshop focuses on ways for tourism industry to handle crises

WHAT: Tourism Crisis Management Institute Leadership Workshop

WHEN: Oct. 19-20
8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday; 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday

WHERE: Jolie’s restaurant, 6 W. University Ave., Gainesville

WHO: Presenters from both hospitality/tourism and emergency management will provide best practices to help provide working examples of how to lead an organization through nature or human induced crisis in order to minimize damage to business and revenue. The Tourism Crisis Management Institute is the only crisis management institute in the United States dedicated to the tourism industry. The workshop will include Dirk Glaesser who is with Chief Risk and Crisis Management of the U.N. World Tourism Organization, and Lee Cockrell, former vice president, Walt Disney World resorts.

BACKGROUND: The mission of the Tourism Crisis Management Institute is to develop research driven solutions to crises that address reduction, readiness, response and recovery issues in local, national and global tourism economies.
