Capture-the-flag tourney raises $1,502 for Boys and Girls Club

October 29, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Theta Delta Chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity recently held its annual capture-the-flag tournament between the members of the University of Florida Panhellenic Council to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Alachua County. The event raised $1,502.

Members of Sigma Kappa sorority were named the overall winners — a calculation based on participation, attendance at the Chi Phi Haunted House, funds raised for the Boys and Girls Club of Alachua County, and performance in the tournament. The Alpha Chi Omega sorority won first place in the tournament, and one of Sigma Kappa’s four teams came in second place.

For the first time this year, Chi Phi Capture was preceded by Chi Phi’s own Haunted House on Oct. 20. The brothers and potential new members of the fraternity turned the house into a spooky walkthrough for a $3 donation to the Boys and Girls Club and opened it to the general public.

The capture the flag tournament sported 12 teams from nine Panhellenic Council sororities: AlphaChi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Delta, Sigma Kappa, and Zeta Tau Alpha.

A live DJ was providing music courtesy of Costa Lounge, and the event was also sponsored by Premier Collegiate, Charlie & Jake’s Grille, Gainesville Open MRI, Tutoring Zone, The Trophy Shop, Sleep Inn and Suites and The Gelato Company. The event was organized by Chi Phi’s External Vice President Corey McGann.
