UFPD raises money to help women with cancer

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Don’t blink if you see pink as part of a University of Florida Police Department uniform on Thursday.

The UFPD sold pink T-shirts as a fundraiser for the Pink Heals Tour, which is a group of firefighters touring the U.S. in pink fire trucks to bring attention to female cancer survivors and others who are continuing to battle cancer. The tour raises money for local charities in cities where the tour visits.

Proceeds from the UFPD sales totaled $2,200 and will be donated to the Southeastern Health Care Foundation during an event Thursday in Butler Plaza. This is a Shands-based foundation in Gainesville.

Chief Linda Stump has authorized all sworn and non-sworn employees who purchased the shirts to wear them as the uniform shirt of the day on Thursday. Several uniformed patrol officers, motorcycle officers, and bicycle officers will be on normal patrol wearing their pink shirts as they conduct their daily operations.
