myUFL portal upgrade could affect users whose browsers are not up-to-date

September 4, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A software upgrade on the myUFL portal later this month may affect some users at the University of Florida, based on the Internet browser used.

As part of the ongoing effort to keep university systems current, a software upgrade will be performed on the myUFL portal, starting the evening of Sept. 24. While each UF work unit’s IT support group is responsible for handling upgrades to Internet browsers as well as any needed browser configurations, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, known as IE6, will not work with the upgraded myUFL system. Therefore, once the software upgrade begins on Sept. 24, users who access the Internet, and therefore myUFL, using IE6 will not be able to perform even the most basic functions in the myUFL portal.

The following is a list of supported browsers that will work with the upgraded myUFL portal:

  • Internet Explorer 7 on Microsoft Windows XP and Vista
  • Internet Explorer 8 on Microsoft XP, Vista and 7
  • Firefox 3.5 & 3.6 on Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and 7, Ubuntu, and Mac OS X.6
  • Apple Safari 3.0,3.1,3.2, and 4 on Mac OS X.5
  • The upgrade to the myUFL portal will also require that pop-ups be enabled on a computer. Whichever browser you use — on your office computer, laptop computer, and at home — if you access myUFL, you must have the pop-ups enabled. Also, the myUFL site must be accepted as a “trusted site” within the “Tools” menu of your Internet browser. If you are uncertain of how to make these changes to your browser, please contact your area’s IT professional staff for assistance.
