September 24, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Alina Fernandez, the daughter of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, will speak at 8 p.m. Wednesday in University Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public with first-come first-serve seating. Doors open at 7:15 p.m., and the event begins at 8 p.m.

Fernandez is an outspoken critic of the Cuban communist regime, which led her to flee Cuba in 1993 with her young daughter. After falsifying papers to find refuge in Spain, she then moved to Miami. Fernandez is most famous for her memoir titled “Castro’s Daughter: An Exile’s Memoir of Cuba,” which details her young life in Cuba and the changes she saw her country undergo under her father’s regime. Fernandez has a radio show on WQBA in Miami where she discusses Cuban politics every Wednesday.
