UF student ambassadors receive national award

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The official organization of University of Florida student ambassadors has received national recognition by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, known as CASE.

The Florida Cicerones, which is the governing body of the UF Student Alumni Association, received the Outstanding Organization Award at the national convention of the Affiliated Student Advancement Programs, known as ASAP, held in Kansas City, Mo.. on Aug. 7. Ninety universities were represented at the convention.

ASAP is the student arm of CASE. The award is chosen based on an organization’s mission, purpose statement, history, organizational structure, programming, marketing and creativity.

The Florida Cicerones organization was established in 1968 and oversees all programming for the UF Student Alumni Association. It is made up of 150 UF students who serve as ambassadors to the university. Florida Cicerones conduct service projects and represent the university at various functions throughout the year. UF has the largest student alumni association in the nation with 11,000 members.

The Florida Cicerones were congratulated with “Gator Chomps” from the audience as they walked to the stage to collect the award.
