GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University Athletic Association (UAA) and the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications announce a new partnership that moves Gatorvision, the multimedia operations unit of UAA, into Weimer Hall, the home of the college. The partnership enables a collaboration of resources, including integration of the technical and personnel expertise of the college and UAA, expanded opportunities for professional education of students and expanded office and editing suite facilities for Gatorvision.

“It is truly a new day for our Gatorvision operation, and we are very pleased,” Director of Athletics Jeremy Foley said. “This collaboration dramatically enhances our ability to deliver high quality multimedia productions for Gator athletics, while also serving as a significant educational opportunity for University of Florida students. We are grateful to the college for its commitment to this vision.” Under the new long-term agreement the college and UAA will work together to build an environment where multimedia content created to highlight Gator student-athletes, teams and The Gator Nation will be built in a state-of-the-art facility integrated into the college’s Division of Multimedia Properties.

“The partnership provides unique educational experiences for our students working on a digital communications platform as well as enhanced association with one of the elite athletic programs in the nation,” said John Wright, dean of UF’s College of Journalism and Communications.

The new partnership will allow Journalism and Communications students to engage in new and unique media-related internships and work experiences. Students will work with UAA personnel in writing, digital video editing, reporting and promotional activities in creating cutting- edge online content for Gatorvision.

Integration of Gatorvision assets into the UF Journalism and Communications facility will begin immediately with an anticipated completion date of Aug. 15, 2010.
