School districts will visit University of Florida's campus for Education Recruitment Day

April 13, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Interested in counseling, coaching, teaching or working in the field of education? Speak with representatives from more than 13 school districts at the Career Resource Center’s Education Recruitment Day.

UF students and alumni seeking full-time jobs in education are encouraged to attend the career fair April 14, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Reitz Student Union. The fair is open to all majors. Candidates who have taken certification examinations are preferred by employers.

“Education Recruitment Day is not just for education majors, but for chemistry majors, biology majors and majors from all fields,” said Ja’Net Glover, assistant director for career events. “The fair offers an opportunity for participants to think of a career path that they may not have thought of before,” Glover said.

Attendees are encouraged to use Gator CareerLink to research prospective school districts and certification processes for those districts. Gator CareerLink is the Career Resource Center’s online job and internship database.

Participants should think about the specific grade level and subject they would like to be involved with prior to the fair, according to Glover.

“I recommend that Students and alumni know what skill sets and abilities they can bring to the table because recruiters may offer jobs immediately after speaking with participants,” Glover said.

UF students and alumni can review the State of Florida’s steps to becoming a certified teacher and Florida’s Teaching Certification Examination requirements on the Career Resource Center’s Web site, www.crc.ufl.edu.
