Fool for Love to be presented April 9-11

April 8, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida Players, University of Florida’s student-run theatre group, continues its spring 2010 showcase season with Sam Shepard’s heart-racing drama, “Fool for Love.”

In a small motel room in the heart of America, a man and woman face off in a battle over their past, present and future. In this war of mind, body and soul, these two combatants prepare for one final stand, where they will stop at nothing to get what they want. No punches are pulled, no subject is taboo and no stone is left unturned in this fast-paced, heart-wrenching modern classic.

Director Jason Weiss has found his own way of transferring this story from text to the stage: “I always start with music. I find the song that I believe captures the mood I’m looking for. From there, I address my other senses and look for smells and sounds that associate with the play. All of these elements allow me to have a clear vision, almost like a film in my head. Once I have a firm grasp on this, I slowly start to share this concept with my actors. We explore the world of the play through exercises and very intense rehearsal. When it comes to directing, I have no interest in reproducing, but rather in creating. With ‘Fool for Love,’ I’m certain we’ve done just that.”

Show times for this limited engagement are Friday, April 9 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 11 at
