University of Florida students invited to spend the summer in Turkey

March 31, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Center for European Studies is unveiling their newest summer study abroad program in Istanbul, Turkey, at the English-speaking Sabanci University. Rich in history and culture, Istanbul is the perfect classroom for the study of Turkey and its relationship with Europe. As the country crosses both Europe and Asia, students will experience two continents for the price of one. Excursions have been built in to the program fee, and students are free to travel when time permits.

Sinan Ciddi, UF faculty, and the Istanbul program coordinator will teach a course on “Turkey’s European Ambition” and students will also have the opportunity to take other courses including “Survival Turkish.” Sabanci University will provide student accommodations and a graduate student mentor will live on site with students and be available. The program will run from July to mid-August (Summer B). Students will earn six UF credits and up to nine credits total, fulfilling the nine credit UF summer residency requirement. The application deadline is April 2. For more information, go to http://www.ces.ufl.edu/study_abroad/program_istanbul.shtml.
