March 24, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida Students in Free Enterprise team will visit 15 elementary schools in Alachua County on Friday to talk about business, economics and free enterprise.

More than 300 students will volunteer in 125 classrooms from kindergarten through fifth grade. This is the fourth year of collaboration between SIFE members and Junior Achievement for what’s called the Day of Difference.

“Day of Difference is a unique opportunity for volunteers from the University of Florida to impact the lives of over 3,000 elementary school children,” said SIFE member Ankit Bavishi.

SIFE is a global nonprofit organization active in more than 40 countries and funded by financial contributions from corporations, entrepreneurs, foundations, government agencies and individuals. Working in partnership with business and higher education, SIFE establishes student teams on university campuses. These teams develop community outreach projects that encompass SIFE’s five educational topics: market economics, success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, business ethics and environmental sustainability.

Junior Achievement is one of the largest nonprofit education organizations whose mission is to help students understand the relevance of education to the workplace through hands-on activities.
