GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Four College of Health and Human Performance (HHP) athletic training students recently won the Second Annual Southeastern Athletic Training Association Student Quiz Bowl. The quiz bowl was part of the annual SEATA student symposium held in Atlanta.

The team consisted of seniors Brett Griesemer, Stephanie Wordes, Trevor Muth and junior Raquel Serra.

“I was very proud, and it was a great feeling to watch the students do so well,” said Keith Naugle, undergraduate athletic training clinical coordinator. “Our students are exposed to multiple facets of athletic training both didactically and clinically which is why this is such a proud moment. These students didn’t just memorizes and prepare for this competition; this is what they really know and apply daily.”

In June, the students will represent District IX at the National Quiz Bowl at the National Athletic Trainers Association conference in Philadelphia.

In addition to winning the quiz bowl, four HHP undergraduate students were selected to present clinical case studies. UF had the most clinical case students presented from Florida universities.

“The clinical case presentations allow the students to share a unique experience in clinical injury management with their peers and future colleagues,” said Patricia Tripp, clinical assistant professor for athletic training. “The value is not only in the preparation of the presentation materials, but rather the teaching and learning shared during the exchange of experiential information.”
