Student shot during altercation with police; no other injuries reported
No one else was injured in the altercation with police.
The shooting occurred at about 9:45 p.m. A Corry Village resident called police after hearing the student screaming in his apartment. Officers tried to negotiate with the student for about an hour after he barricaded himself into his apartment. The student threatened officers with a pipe and a knife.
Officers attempted to use peaceful means to subdue the student but he continued to struggle with them, police said. One officer then fired his weapon.
Eight to ten Corry Village residents were evacuated to another part of the complex during the standoff. It was unclear when they would be allowed to return to their apartments.
