February 19, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Museum of Natural History is encouraging guests to grab their flip-flops and follow the sound of steel drums to its “Passport to Key West” fundraiser, 7 to 11 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26.

The Florida Museum will take on the atmosphere of Key West, from Mallory Square to Duval Street and the infamous Sloppy Joe’s. This evening in paradise includes island dining by Blue Water Bay, live beach tunes by Green Room and Bahama Pan, as well as dancing and frozen concoctions in the capital of the Conch Republic. Dress is “Key West chic,” and guests are encouraged to wear costumes reflecting an island theme.

Admission is $150 per person. For more reservation information, visit www.flmnh.ufl.edu/passport or call 352-273-2086. The special event also includes a silent auction with art, including unique Key West pieces, jewelry and other items. Passport proceeds help meet many important Florida Museum needs, many of which may otherwise go unfunded. These include graduate research opportunities and support for the museum’s collections, exhibits and public programs.

The event is a production of the Florida Museum Associates Board. For more information, including sponsorship opportunities, call Leslie Ladendorf, development coordinator, 352-273-2047.
