Study abroad fair highlights global education opportunities

January 8, 2010

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida International Center will host the Spring 2010 Study Abroad Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 27 in the Reitz Student Union Colonnade. With more than 50 study-abroad program representatives expected, students will have an opportunity to explore the possibilities that enable them to become “Global Gators.”

The Study Abroad Fair is an excellent way for students to begin planning an exciting educational journey. This past year, more than 2,200 students studied abroad.

Both UF faculty members, who lead study abroad programs and former study abroad students, will be available to share their international experiences. The Study Abroad Fair also will feature other universities and institutions that sponsor UF-approved study abroad programs and internships. The Study Abroad Services staff will be on hand to explain the application process and help students find a fitting study-abroad program. A representative from Student Financial Affairs will be available to answer questions about the many forms of financial aid offered to students studying abroad.

It is never too early for students to begin mapping their study-abroad plans. As approved, study abroad can count toward degree requirements such as General Education. Also, summer study abroad can count toward the nine-hour residency requirement.

Students considering study abroad must apply to the International Center (170 HUB). The deadline for summer 2010 study abroad is March 5, and the deadline for the fall semester is April 1. The deadline for spring semester 2011 is Oct. 15.
