WUFT-FM announces lineup for new local holiday music performance series

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida public radio station WUFT-FM has announced the lineup for “Home for the Holidays,” a special series of local music performances.

WUFT-FM will broadcast all the performances on its HD2 channel. It has recorded or will record the first three at the University Auditorium on campus. It plans to record the fourth at the Thomas Center for the Arts. Here are the concerts and broadcast dates:

  • Dec. 14 at 5 p.m., Dec. 21 at 9 a.m. and Dec. 24 at 1 p.m.: The UF Symphony Orchestra with Raymond Chobaz conducting Haydn, Beethoven and Mendelssohn. The soloist, School of Music faculty member Kevin Sharpe, will perform Mendelssohn Piano Concert No. 1 in g minor.
  • Dec. 15 at 9 a.m., Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. and Dec. 23 at 1 p.m.: The UF College of Fine Arts and the School of Music present “The Sounds of the Season,” which features eclectic musical disciplines in an annual holiday celebration.
  • Dec. 16 at 1 p.m., Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. and Dec. 22 at 9 a.m.: The Gainesville Chamber Orchestra with Evans Haile conducting the eighth annual “Got Beethoven” concert.
  • Dec. 17 at 1 p.m., Dec. 23 at 9 a.m. and Dec. 24 at 5 p.m.: The Gainesville Chamber Orchestra Ensemble Holiday Concert at the Thomas Center for the Arts. It will feature woodwinds, string and piano performing works by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and more.

WUFT-FM — which broadcasts news and public affairs programs on its primary channel, classical/art programming on HD2, and old-time radio on HD3 — is part of the UF College of Journalism and Communications’ newly restructured Division of Multimedia Properties. It simulcasts its programs on its sister station, WJUF-FM 90.1.

The college is a national leader in the professional education of future journalists and other communication practitioners. It offers undergraduate programs in advertising, print and broadcast journalism, public relations, and telecommunication; and graduate programs in science/health communication, media law, political communication and international communication.
