GAINESVILLE, Fla. –– The University of Florida Student Health Care Center has selected Dr. Phillip Barkley and Rizan Yozgat as the recipients of two prestigious awards.

Barkley, director of the Student Health Care Center, received the C. Arthur Sandeen “Improving the Quality of Life” Award given to honor individuals who demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of life enjoyed by UF students.

Barkley’s personal qualities emulate Sandeen’s tireless dedication to students and the steadfast desire to improve the University of Florida. Barkley was chosen by a committee comprised of the student body president, dean of students and former Student Affairs Vice President Sandeen.

Yozgat of Student Mental Health Services received the 2009 Sustainable Solutions “Bright Idea” Award for her idea to eliminate the use of paper flyers on cars in the O’Connell Center parking lot.

This change could save a significant amount of paper and human resources. Rizan proposed using digital signs, e-mail or creating a Web site as an alternative for announcing events.
