Jewish Student Union remembers Holocaust with event

April 16, 2009

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida Jewish Student Union will host a “Yom HaShoah – Holocaust Remembrance Day” at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the Plaza of the Americas.

Continuing until 7:30 p.m., the event will provide opportunities for the students to write to their congressional representatives about genocides happening now around the world. Guest speakers will include Peter Ter, a UF student who was born in Sudan. The evening will conclude with a candlelight vigil.

“In light of a recent anti-Semitic offense that occurred on campus, we hope the entire student body will attend and show their solidarity against all types of bigotry and hatred,” said Jason Attermann, president of the Jewish Student Union.

“Schindler’s List,” the Oscar-winning film about the Holocaust, will be shown at 8 p.m. at the UF Hillel center on West University Avenue.
