April 14, 2009

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham of Florida will be on campus for two public events during Orange and Blue Weekend.

At 2 p.m. Friday in the Pugh Hall Ocora, Graham will discuss his new book “America, the Owner’s Manual: Making Government Work for You.” Recently published by CQ Press, the book encourages private citizens to become involved in the policymaking process, giving case studies and instruction on subjects ranging from lobbying to working with the media.

Also on Friday, Graham will deliver a talk titled “When Bob Graham Became a Gator.” The talk will begin at 6 p.m. in the Pugh Hall Ocora and is part of the Samuel Proctor Florida History Lecture Series.

“Senator Graham’s public life began at the University of Florida,” said Mike Bowen, assistant director of the Bob Graham Center for Public Service. “We are pleased that he has the opportunity to share his story with the university community as part of the university’s “When Did You Become a Florida Gator?” campaign. It fits perfectly with the Proctor Lecture Series and will be a fitting conclusion for this semester’s series.”

The Samuel Proctor Florida History Lecture Series is made possible by generous donations from the Proctor family and alumni members of the Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity.

The Graham Center for Public Service provides students with opportunities to train for future leadership positions, meet policymakers and take courses in critical thinking, language learning and studies of world cultures. Its mission is to foster public leadership and solve issues related to the Americas and homeland security. It also serves as a magnet to attract distinguished scholars and speakers to Florida.
