Event to showcase faculty research in design, construction and planning

April 6, 2009

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Faculty members of the University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning will present their current research at the college’s second annual Research Showcase from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Architecture Building on the UF campus.

A poster exhibition will be held in the gallery all day as faculty members discuss their research individually in Rooms 331 and 411. A full schedule of the presentations is available at www.dcp.ufl.edu/calendar/research-showcase-2009.

The research showcase, free and open to the public, not only is an opportunity for current and prospective students to learn about the research conducted in the college but also is a chance for design, construction and planning professionals to see what new ideas are driving the field. The research covers topics in architecture, building construction, interior design, landscape architecture and urban and regional planning.

One of the featured exhibits will be a model of a self-sustaining, solar-powered house designed by the UF Solar Decathlon Team for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2010 Competition in Madrid. The two-year-long competition includes 20 university teams from around the world competing in 10 contests to design and, ultimately in May 2010, to build the best sustainable home that can be easily industrialized and adapted to any climate. UF is one of only two U.S. universities accepted to the competition. For more information about the competition, visit http://www.sdeurope.org/index.php/eng/. The team’s exhibition at the showcase also will include research on energy simulations, climate and shading devices.
