Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day to raise money for Alachua County Public Schools

April 20, 2009

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Ben & Jerry’s 29th annual Free Cone Day will take place on Tuesday, April 21, from noon to 9 p.m. at two Ben & Jerry’s locations, 1638 W. University Ave. and 3773 S.W. Archer Road.

Volunteers from University of Florida organizations and other Gainesville community members will be scooping free ice cream for tips in this annual event to benefit the Alachua County Public Schools Foundation. Gainesville residents are encouraged to enjoy ice cream, bring friends and tip.

Tips will be collected to benefit various schools and school programming through the foundation and Partners in Education. These groups include college volunteer programs at UF, such as CHAMPS, Project MASCOT and Project Makeover. Students and teachers from Littlewood Elementary and UF Greek organizations also will be scooping the ice cream for tips.

Free Cone Day is taking place across the nation and around the globe. Ben & Jerry’s will give away more than one million free scoops of ice cream on this one day.
