Machens to discuss recent trip to Iran in Pugh Hall’s Ocora

January 23, 2009

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida President Bernie Machen and his wife, Chris, will discuss their recent trip to Iran at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Pugh Hall Ocora on UF’s campus.

In November, Machen was one of six U.S. research university presidents, including presidents from Carnegie Mellon and Cornell, to visit several Iranian universities.

The trip, organized by the Association of American Universities, was intended to foster exchange and renew academic relations between Iran and the U.S. It followed a series of exchange visits of U.S. and Iranian scientists between the two countries sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.

The Graham Center for Public Service will host the talk, which will be followed by a reception. The event is free and open to the public.
