November 13, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Originator and executive producer of the “Batman” movie series, Michael Uslan, will be speaking at the University of Florida at 8 p.m. on Nov. 18 in the Reitz Student Union Grand Ballroom. This event is free and open to the public with first come first serve seating. Doors will open at 7:15 p.m.

Uslan is best known as the originator and executive producer of the “Batman” movie series, starting with Tim Burton’s 1989 film, and continuing to 2008′s “The Dark Knight.” Less well-known is that the first film was the culmination of a decade long effort by Uslan to bring a serious, dark version of the character to the big screen.

In addition to the “Batman” series, Uslan has produced or has been involved with numerous other movies, including “The Spirit,” “Constantine” and “National Treasure.” Films he is currently in development with are “Shazam” and “The Shadow” with Sam Raimi and Josh Donen. Uslan will speak about his efforts to bring “Batman” to the silver screen. Uslan’s story is one of inspiration and dedication. Uslan will share the principles that allowed him to persevere despite repeated rejection.
