Fans asked to bring canned foods to Saturday's game

November 20, 2008

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida’s Gators Canned Goods Challenge for Kids already has helped raise more than 3,300 pounds of food for the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank in Gainesville, but many local food banks are in dire need of contributions to assist families for the upcoming holiday season.

Head Coach Urban Meyer and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee are asking fans to bring as many canned goods as possible to the final home game of the season on Saturday against The Citadel. The drop-off location is the Alltel Wireless FanFest located outside of Gate 2 of the O’Connell Center, which opens three hours prior to kickoff.

Collections will be distributed to more than 150 local organizations. The Bread of the Mighty Food Bank encourages donations of canned fruits, vegetables and meats. Please do not donate glass containers
